Bio

Max Posner is a freelance photojournalist, multimedia producer, and FAA Part 107 commercial drone pilot based in Richmond, VA. Born in Washington D.C., he moved to Richmond to attend Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science in 2012. His work in media began with 'RVA Green Space', a series he created for WRIR Richmond Independent Radio that explored recreational infrastructure and green space in the city. While living in Richmond, Max also volunteered with the James River Outdoor Coalition improving access to the James River Park System and as an EMT-B with Forest View Rescue Squad in Chesterfield County. From 2017-2018 he worked as an outdoor educator and backcountry guide in the Pacific Northwest before moving to New York City to study Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism at the International Center of Photography. In January 2020, he joined the NPR Science Desk as the Multimedia Intern, editing visuals for breaking and long-form stories during the first nine months of the COVID-19 Pandemic. His personal work explores solutions-based climate resiliency efforts, community, outdoor adventure, and the human relationship to water.
