Time Marches On
A member of The Silent Generation, Maynard Posner was a New Yorker of a bygone era. Son of a Russian-Jewish immigrant who fled religious persecution in what is now Ukraine, Maynard grew up in Queens, a Brooklyn Dodger fan. He inherited the family plastic manufacturing business, another guy walking the streets of Manhattan’s Flatiron District. An officer in the New York National Guard, Maynard was stationed for a time at the armory at E. 34th Street and Park Avenue. He married a girl from the Bronx, became a father of two, and eventually a grandfather of 5.
Maynard was my role model, someone whose actions always spoke louder than his words. He was an everyman of a rapidly disappearing generation. Maynard left us on June 20th, 2023.
